Corn can grow way taller than we are, so I would really consider depth of soil.  I had an aunt who grew it every year in a small inner city plot.  She would get a lot of ears, but they were mini ones because they didn't go down very far and didn't have much room to spread out...and she sucked the life out of the soil by planting every single year..same spot, same crop without a year's rest....corn, tomatoes , cukes ,corn, tomatoes, cukes, corn tomatoes cukes.
Your corn was interesting to follow, though. Maybe you will find another veg or fruit to grow or 'rescue' like the salvaged toms.!!

We have high ceilings 9 or 10 feet and I have heard of others having success with corn I think I will give it another shot.

That's how the great potato famine occurred. Need to follow crop rotation plan. SOme vegetables/fruits take nutrients out and some put it back.
