I guess I won't be trimming for a while. The buds are to small to take pictures of but there are four buds.

Have you grown the large tomatoes before, Terry?

No I haven't and I'm not sure it will work. I can't cut them back much more.

It will be encouraging to see tomatoes appear soon. Hang in there. Also, you can raise the hood a bit higher than the last notch by running a knitting needle or dowel through and giving it something to sit on. It will balance securely.

There are buds, they appeared yesterday and are still hard to see in the pictures. This plant was started 8-13-2008. It grew really fast.
I may try raising the hood higher.

Wow. They ARE tall Terry. Any buds on the lower branches, or are they all just up at the top? I can tell you that my from experience with my outdoor ones this summer that once the plants started producing buds and flowers they did not get much taller as all of the plant energy was dedicated to growing those rather than getting taller.

Yeah, all the buds are on the top. There are eight of them. I hope it slows down the growth.

There are actually twelve buds and it has seemed to have slowed down the vertical growth. I think Ellen is right the buds take all of the energy.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that it is indeed the case so you don't have to prune them.

Got up today and one of the leaves was wilted, It touched the bulb. Don't know what to do. I raised the hood to the last position this morning. As soon as the buds are big enough I will prune close to them hoping that they will be ok and the plant starts growing from below.

Good idea to unplug them since they were near the lights Terry. I don't think just a weekend will have hurt anything at all. Check out my glog. I just about killed mine off in 5 minutes trying to take pictures last night. LOL!!!

Or, leave the AG plugged in and unplug the lights only. The pump will keep working then and keep the water flowing, circulating and feeding your plants.
Stagnant water is not good for the plants, it breeds pathogens/algae which can ruin your crop...

We were only gone for about a day and a half. I don't think the water will stagnate that fast. It definitely can't hurt to leave the pump running.
Thanks Peat

I think it's fine for that length of time too Terry. It is an idea if you are gone for a little longer. I would have done the same as you did for only a weekend. Can't wait to see your pictures!

I had to leave my cherry toms stagnate for 1 week whilst away!
I lost all my newly forming buds and many leaves died, luckily the plant did not get diseased and it fully recovered. I'm thankfull they were so resilient.
