homemade DWC

I build a 4 site dwc that was 4 gallons, that just uses the air pump as the action needed to wet the medium.
I used 5 inch net cups, which i know are big but i really wanted to have one pot per gallon.
It work great, i coated mine in aluminum tape since it was black. it light proofed it and keeps the roots cool.
I use one airstone, but am about to drill another air hole and install a second stone to give me better o2 in the res. I messed up and bought a single output so thats why only one tube. I am planning to upgrade pumps to a dual output as soon as i find a good pump.
here are a few pictures, im hoping it will be helpful.

Hey shane I was wondering, how much is that aluminum foil tape you are using and where did you get it.
I asked my dad about it and he said its really expensive, but I think he just didn't want me using his.
Thanks
Herb

I bought a roll from walmart for right around 8 dollars. now the chrome tape is hardcore expensive. but the aluminum tape isn't so bad. one roll is plenty. i have tons of the stuff left over.

Have you thought about using a bubble wall? You can get really long, static ones as well as the type that you can coil into any shape you want - at your local Wal-Mart.

I thought about one of those but they were out of them the last time i was there so i went with two 6 inch air stones. Im not happy with the two air pumps, but i'm getting the amount of bubbles i want. Thanks for the suggestion i may give those a shot the next time im at walmart.

LOL I've been so busy building it that i haven't given a though to what I'll actually grow. Probably some more peppers, I have fallen in love with growing jalapenos and would love to see how they turn out in my setup. The pots are large enough for dang near anything i can think up.
I am going to hang CFL's from chains and that way i can move them up or down as i need. I bought some 105watt compact florescent bulbs. they are 6500k cfls and they are HUGE!
The only room i have left is in my closet, so i will probably rig something up in there. I will certainly post pics as im growing. Luckily Our apartment has a huge walk in closet, so as long as i stay to my side of the closet, my wife doesn't mind.

okay, for the next round ill get some of that... I used way too much aluminum foil (had to start over a few times because I thought i was letting light down through the holes. I didn't realize that the roots grow directly down into the foam! I thought for some reason they would have to go up and around the foam so I cut it to leave space around it, next time I make them they will fit supper tight!

Thanks for posting the pictures Shane and explaining about the aluminum tape, which wouldn't have occurred to me. I'm looking forward to your growing pictures. Will you need a fan or is the walk-in closet big enough for air movement?

I will probably add a fan just in case and to aid in stem development. the action of the fan will strengthen the stems naturally.

I've avoided adding a fan so far but am running out of open spaces. Nice you have a big storage area - looking forward to your updates on this.

Shane, Excellent Job
If your looking for a nice dual air pump, check out a few here:
http://www.4hydroponics.com/grow_room/ecoair.asp
http://www.4hydroponics.com/grow_room/dualDiaphragmPump.asp
The dual diaphragm pump is pricey, but it works great. It leaves a lot of room to expand.
I have some extra jalapeno seeds that I purchased from parkseeds.com. Let me know if you would some.
Looking forward to seeing some eye candy in the future.
Dave
