Anybody have ANY experience growing gerbera's from seed?  Im very familiar with growing them outside but only from established plants.

I've just odered some gerbera seeds and I'm going to give it a shot.  I know they are quite difficult to germ from seed which is one reason why you so rarely see gerbera seeds!

I understand that it takes at least 3-4 month from seed till bloom so I think I might start them in the hot house seed started I just odered and then try to move outside when the weather allows.

Gerbera tales anybody?

Thanx!!!!

Well, I got my seeds yesterday.  VERY expensive...about a dollar per seed!

I planted 2 of them last night in my new mini green house thingy and I'm going to do a couple pods in the AG tonight.

If they germinate ok, they should be ready to go outside about mid-May I'm thinking.

Then.....hopefully they should be in bloom about late June in a perfect world.

We'll have to let each other know how it's going.

I just put in my order..so pretty!
i also called and ordered a larger dome..had to see if they were ready to ship.
One thing I am using when they arrive is a  Mr Light indoor flourescent light stand until things warm up
a bit on the sunporch!
Today we are having a very cold snow/rain mix.
I also got some Zinnias for my outdoor boxes.
You are right . The Gerberas are $$ but worth it.

Funny Corinne....if I remember you are in my area right?  Chicago that is!

I just got something called the "hot house deluxe" because I couldnt get the park seed bio-dome for at least another month.

I'm going to plant that up and use either the spill over light from my ag's or purchase just a grow bulb to use in an exisiting fixture I have at home.

81 starts in this mini greenhouse....that's alot of plants!!

Hurry spring......

Really?  I know somebody was from the Joliet area outside of Chicago....

Ohhhh....I've always loved the east coast.  Lived in NJ for awhile as a kid.
