heads up, the outlet has changed!

Aerogarden Space Saver 6
White: $49.95
Silver: $49.95
Elite: $59.95

you dont get a seed kit, and the outlet doesnt give you the free garden starter tray, and you pay 7.95 for shipping.... but if you dont need the seed kit and starter tray and want to get the ss6 as cheap as possible, this is probably the best way.  57.90 for white/silver on outlet after s/h versus 79.95 with starter tray/seed kit and free s/h on the main website.

you may still get bing cashback if you link from there, not positive tho as the outlet site is technically a different website addy.  you definitely get it on the main website tho, so should bring the price difference down to 57.90 vs 70.35.

and alas, they have disabled the coupon code =(  so this price is probably the best you will see for just the base unit.

Is there now a garden starter tray for the SS6 models?  If so, can you tell me where to find it?  I have 2 SS6 units and would LOVE to get one before spring.

I was thinking about trying to make my own by buying a sheet of styrofoam and just cutting the holes in it and using with my Park Seed plugs.

Anybody have a good way to cut the holes in the styrofoam?

Kelly, AG has a starter tray for the SS6 units.  Go to the Accessories page, it's to the immediate right of the starter tray for the standard/Classic models.  Very easy to miss, since the picture shown is of the machine, not really the tray.  $19.95 and it looks like they're out of stock on it.

For the money, you could get a park seed bio dome which you can use the plugs later in your aerogardens. I find the cost of replacement plugs for the starter tray to be on the high side. just thought i would mention it as freeing up an ag is always a good thing.

Thanks Cherylann...I never would have seen that.

Shane, I already use the park start plugs...I have a huge bag full!

Problem for me is I get VERY little natural light in my condo so the only gardening I do besides AG's is out on my balcony but I wanted to get a jump start on the season. Here is Chicago frost fee date is mid to late April and I do like to do a lot of growing from seed as opposed to buying plants (so little variety available).  My thought was if I could get things started indoors in maybe March I would be ahead of the game by about a month when I moved them outside.

Think the bio dome would do ok with just the spillover light from my AG units?

I am light limited as well, I live in an apartment on the ground floor. I believe the spill over light would be enough to germinate the seeds since others grow plants using the extra light.. Ive wanted to try it but i have a large Buddha in between my gardens.

Don't get me wrong, i like the starter tray and if your ok with the refills price then by all means get one. The tray does work and would give you a jump on spring for sure. I played around with mine when i had my 7 pod machines. It would be handy to have one that fits the ag6 but im too cheap hehe Wink

Kelly,
I am pretty sure that our frost free date is mid - May 15th (we had frost even after that 2 years ago - end of May) - there is a link that shows by state - ours shows May 17th, but also warns about an addl 2 weeks for the possibility.  I planted all my toms and peppers that I started indoors on May 15th (2 years ago), and lost a lot of plants to frost.  I did have to cover most plants with blankets and plastic when I knew it was going to frost, but most peppers did not make it.   I use the tomato cages and cover them with a large garbage bag-upside down, and tie the strings tight at the bottom.  Then I add grocery store bags at the base crumbled up to insulate.  The tomatoes survived, but the peppers died.  Evey year, I get anxious about getting things outside, but now, I wait for almost the end of May.  I am closer to the Wheaton, which puts me at June 1st.

I couldn't pass up this deal and just bought the SS6!!!!!   Cheesy  This will be my first 6 unit!   Wink

I bought the Elite model, which they said they are discontinuing because of cosmetic flaws that can occur on the grow surface.  I already have some chrome paint, as I had to fix both of my AG3's for the same reason, which was not that big of a deal, and actually turned out really nice!   Smiley

LOOK WHAT YOU GUYS MADE ME DO!!!!!   Cheesy

I just had to stop in here really quickly to share my TOTAL AND COMPLETE HAPPINESS!!!!!   Cheesy  My new AeroGarden SS6 arrived today!!!   Grin

This was from the awesome deal above, from the Outlet Store!!!  It was not supposed to include a seed kit, BUT IT CAME WITH GOURMET HERBS!!!!!   Cheesy  Shhhhh...........    Wink

I LOVE THIS MODEL!!!!!   Cheesy  It looks AWESOME on my kitchen counter, and I am sort of particular about "clutter"!   Wink  But, as I stated above, they were discontinuing this model, as the grow surface may develop cosmetic flaws over time, from the water and the nutrients, so, before I did anything, I painted the surface with clear coat!!!   Cool  I hope this works, as a couple of other units that I had that did this, I had to paint them with a silver chrome spray paint, first.  But, I love the cute little "trap door" on the grow surface, to refill the water!   Cheesy  I also LOVE how quiet this one is!!!   Grin

OK!  Back to work!!!   Cheesy  Thanks for letting me share!!!   Wink

Hey Melissa!  If you get a chance, can you let me know which spray paint you found that matches and adheres well to the AGs.  I just got a Veggie Pro and didn't think about it til I unpacked it that I've got 5 elites in the kitchen.  I'd love to spray it up to match.  Thanks so much for mentioning that idea!

Hey There!   Smiley  I used Rustoleum Bright Coat Metallic Finish #7718 Chrome.  This has a very silvery finish!  I also used a clear coat from Rustoleum, that is called Crystal Clear Enamel #7701 Crystal Clear.

I don't know if painting the VeggiePro would be the same thing, though... Huh  The surfaces that I painted, were already "treated" surfaces, from the factory.  The VeggiePro, as you know, is black plastic, and not a "treated" surface.  But, I can tell you, on my AG3's, the finish actually came off !   Sad  I don't know if it was the water or the nutrients, but something wore away the finish...   Sad  It looked HORRIBLE before I painted it... so, I had nothing to lose!   Wink  But, I was so pleased today when I got the SS6, because the surface was already like a bright "chrome"!  So, just clear coating that, will hopefully preserve the surface, and prevent it from wearing away!   Smiley

Thanks Melissa!  I'm going to try it.  If I make it ugly, it can live in the pantry.  Tongue I love having them all out on the counters though... Cheesy

Oh, G-d!!!  I can't believe I am actually admitting this to all of you...  but... ya know that SpacerSaver6 that I just bought from the Outlet Store...?  Uh...  I just love it so much...  I absolutely LOVE the size, the shape and the quietness...  I JUST HAD TO ORDER TWO MORE!!!  Cheesy  Unfortunately, the Outlet store was out of them, but, I was still able to get a 20% discount on the second one!  But, I put the new one in my kitchen, and I really love it there!!!   Cheesy

Also, I started an herb kit in it 6 days ago, and everything has sprouted beautifully!   Smiley  I keep a lot of extra seeds, and I filled each little pod with a couple of my own seeds, and it really seems to be taking off wonderfully well!   Smiley

If I may add a little something, I am assuming since many of you are really into this, that you know that last year, seed purchases were up 30% in America.  That is a huge jump.  And it wasn't just me buying them all, I SWEAR !!!  Cheesy  Obviously, the economy has many people growing their own food.  If you can, I personally, think it would be a really good idea to make sure that you have the seeds that you like, and some extras... as it is never a bad idea to have some things, "just in case".   Wink
