Wow, that looks great! I am growing romaine from seed in my SS6 and it doesn't look like that at all!

Jen, yes, that is week 3 LOL! Funny thing is I had to raise the lights and more needs to come off tonight to eat. I should take another picture to post tonight since the lettuce changes dramatically from day to day. Erin and Rox, yours will come along too. Lettuces are so fun and easy to grow. Kim Marie, I so agree. These are by far my favorite crop to grow in the AG.

The only problem is that once they start to bolt, you have to rip them out and start over. However, since they grow so fast it is not long before you are back in business.

This is starting week 5 for this garden. Got a VERY large harvest from it Thursday night to make a big salad and looks like I am going to have to do the same tonight or tomorrow. LOVE these seeds.

Kudos, awsome looking romaine Cheesy
The other day I saw a mixed romaine kit for AG6. Have you grown that seed Ellen?
If so, does it grow fast as well? I may run to BBB and buy that kit with the 20%coupon Smiley

Thanks

Salad green will grow at similar rate? Thats what I just planted Smiley

Yes the salad greens grow at the same rate. It's surprizing how fast it grows once it sprouts.

Hi Jen,

Thanks! No, those are from my own seeds using the master gardener kit with the peat pods and Parris Island romaine seeds. Also using the AG nutrient tablets.

The only greens kit I've grown from AG is the salad greens kit, but I really enjoyed it. I've grown that one a couple of times. Yes, it grows just as fast as these do. The leaves are a little more delicate, kind of like a baby lettuce. I have a salad bowl lettuce seed that is similar that I will also be growing again.

The lettuce got another "haircut". I have about 4 cups for dinner tonight. Lots of new leaves coming in.

Here is a picture after today's harvest. As you can see, although I trimmed off about 4 cups there is still plenty of lettuce in the garden.

Ellen, you need to eat more lettuce. Seems you can't keep up with them Cheesy

HA!!! Jen, it's best eaten fresh so I have left enough on to get another smaller salad tomorrow. I am a salad freak.   Grin

I am actually thinking about running two Classics in parallel with nothing but lettuce for my next grow. I am pretty well convinced that lettuce varieties work best when planted with the same crop in the AG's rather than trying to mix them in one. One of salad bowl, the other of baby ice.   Grin

Is baby ice a crisp lettuce?

I've got romaine & bibb started right now.

To be honest, I tried green ice in a mixed salad garden Orlando Jude. I think for me I get much better production when I am growing one variety in one garden, so the next time I grow it it will be all green ice. It did not do as well as the partner I planted it with. Green ice is a salad bowl lettuce and baby star is the other romaine I have seeds for. Hence the confusion. Sorry about the mix up in names. I've just found in the last several gardens of lettuce I've grown that some of the varieties compete against each other so I have moved to growing the one type when I start one. I get much better production that way.

So is green ice a crisp lettuce?

What do you  mean by 'salad bowl' lettuce?

Oh, I know that must have been confusing after re-reading the post.  So sorry.  Huh  I have seeds that are just labeled generic "salad bowl" from Home Depot. Those are looseleaf lettuces. The green ice I have are classified as looseleaf lettuce. The baby star are classified as a type of romaine. I got both of those from Totally Tomatoes last year.

Another approximately 3-4 cup agressive prune from the romaine this evening.
